Mathematics & Statistics

Department of Mathematics & Statistics , Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences

Department of Mathematics is constituent department of Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences (FEAS). Mathematics is one of the oldest academic disciplines of the basic sciences. It is considered the basis in learning and understanding the science subjects. This is why it is called “Mother of All Sciences”. Mathematicians can contribute in divers eds, such as in all Basic Sciences, all branches of Engineering, Industry, Management, and Metro logy in Teaching and Research. We believe that if we have good and Competent Mathematicians, we can bring revolution in our Education, Industry and latest Modern Technologies. The department endeavors to educate its students by providing them exposure to real-life problems, and inculcating in them a problem solving approach. They are encouraged to explore, solve problems, break new grounds and cultivate leadership qualities. The department aims to establish and promote Riphah as a leading University for teaching and research in Mathematical Sciences both within Pakistan and Internationally.

Aims & Objectives:

The importance of Basic Sciences in the Universities is like a life saving drug. Basic Sciences are essential for proper understanding the technical subjects, promoting research work, widening the vision for the future and enhancing the quality and authenticity in Sciences.

The subjects of Basic Sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Economics, play a vital role in the development of a Country. It is our intention to produce competent, motivated and socially responsible Mathematicians, Physicists, Statistician and Economists that they can build the good traditions through education and to participate actively in the development of our country.

It is our objective to promote educational “Jihad” to establish an ethically motivated, committed, hardworking, knowledgeable and sensible society.

Description:

The department aims to establish and promote Riphah as a leading University for teaching and research in Mathematical Sciences both within Pakistan and Internationally.

Statistics conceive pragmatic solutions in the presence of uncertainty. Think critically – particularly with respect to conceiving multiple explanations for observed phenomena (this is key in the understanding of most statistical concepts e.g. statistical testing, inference, design, model construction and diagnostics etc), and choosing between these: Appropriate data collection; Formulate analysis suitable to answer their own or their clients’ questions, both under ideal data or within the constraints of available data; Identify data limitations with respect to their ability to answer specific questions; Convey potentially complex results simply every nation for the development of its Socio-Economic setup. To meet such challenges department of statistics started M.Phil classes in 2001. The study of M.Phil is based on two years training. During the first & second semesters, students undergo the course work and in their remaining year, they are given research task. Moreover, this M.Phil. is a leading Programme towards Ph.D.

Message from HOD

On behalf of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, I welcome all the prospective students. Department of Mathematics and Statistics aims to pursue excellence in teaching and research by developing appropriate curricula and teaching practices. The department acquires services of competent Ph.D. faculty members in all basic disciplines of Mathematics and Statistics in order to provide an environment that is conducive to both teaching and learning. Moreover, the department aims at developing the soft skills of students that would be beneficial for their future careers. The department provides service to the entire University from undergraduate students to graduate students in mathematics and statistics courses.
