DESCRIPTION:From October 4th to 6th\, 2024\, Riphah International University\, in partnership with the Pakistan Association of Lifestyle Medicine (PALM)\, hosted the 5th International Conference on Lifestyle Medicine Retreat. Held at the beautiful Highland Country Club\, this unique event provided participants with a peaceful and refreshing environment to explore the latest developments in lifestyle medicine. This was the first retreat-style conference of its kind in Pakistan\, blending professional learning with healthy activities. Over three days\, attendees took part in engaging workshops\, scientific sessions\, and important discussions\, while also enjoying yoga and nature walks to support their well-being. Worthy Chancellor Riphah International University\, Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan\, shared his thoughts during the event\, highlighting the significance of this conference. Other key speakers included Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmed\, Dr. Zia Abbas\, President of PALM\, Dr. Shagufta Feroz\, Director of the Riphah Institute of Lifestyle Medicine (RILM)\, and Dr. Beth Frates\, President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Munira Abbasi\, Vice President of PALM\, led workshops and served as the moderator of this successful event. Key topics discussed included how lifestyle changes can help prevent heart disease\, manage diabetes\, and improve the healthcare system. The conference highlighted how lifestyle medicine can play a vital role in addressing non-communicable diseases and promoting long-term health. DESCRIPTION:Transforming Health Professions Education: Trends\, Challenges and Solutions \nThe 8th International Conference on Medical Education (ICME) 2023 held from October 7th to 10th in the beautiful city of Baku\, Azerbaijan\, marked a significant milestone in the world of medical education. This conference\, organized through a fruitful collaboration between Riphah International University and Azerbaijan Medical University\, was a resounding success\, with robust participation and rich content. ICME 2023 was a comprehensive event featuring 33 pre-conference workshops and 4 courses\, aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of medical education issues and strategies. The conference also highlighted 111 research presentations\, consisting of 96 oral and 15 poster presentations\, covering diverse topics ranging from curriculum development to innovative teaching methods. Moreover\, 8 interactive conference workshops provided attendees with hands-on experiences and valuable knowledge sharing opportunities. ICME 2023 achieved a significant milestone by being accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME). This accreditation\, awarded 24.5 CME Credits to the conference\, attests to the exceptional quality of the event and its educational content.

SUMMARY:7th International Water Conference (7IWC) on “Water Security and Climate Change Adaptability”
DESCRIPTION:The 7th International Water Conference (7IWC) on “Water Security and Climate Change Adaptability” was organized by Riphah Institute of Public Policy\, Riphah International University\, PCRWR\, and Water Aid in collaboration with Federal Flood Commission\, University of Baltistan\, Comsats University\, Mehran University and department of Islamic Studies\, Riphah International University from 29-30 December 2022 at Islamabad. The conference aimed to identify gaps in policies and planning in the water and climate change sector and to work out plausible recommendations. \nThe inaugural remarks were given by; Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan\, Chancellor\, Riphah University\, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf\, Chairman\, PCRWR\, Mr. Arif Jabbar Khan\, Country Director\, Water Aid and Mr. Ahmad Kamal\, Chairman\, Federal Flood Commission\, Ministry of Water Resources\, Govt of Pakistan in addition to the overview given by Dr. Rashid Aftab\, Director\, RIPP. \nAlong with the scholars from Pakistan\, International scholars including Dr. Imtiaz Khan\, Dean George Washington University\, USA\, Dr. Asif Khan\, University of Auckland\, New Zealand\, Ms. Tazeen Hasan\, Canadian journalist\, Dr. Akbar Zaid\, Professor\, Salam University\, Afghanistan also contributed through their deliberations. \nThe speakers highlighted that Pakistan is at a very critical crossroads and there is a strong need to manage its fast decreasing per capita water availability\, the erratic river flows\, and changing water regimes due to climate change. The situation of water quality is not promising in the country which has an enormous impact on the health and well-being of the citizens of the country. It was highlighted that water security is an emerging national security challenge for Pakistan. The water availability vis-a-vis the burgeoning population\, agriculture\, and other uses of water are critical. The impacts of abnormal melting of glaciers\, non-availability of dams for storage of rainwater\, and lack of smart means for agricultural water have to be examined with empirically validated arguments. Further\, in addition to engineering\, management\, economics\, and social perspective of water & climate change\, the Islamic perspective has also to be taken into account for creating awareness and policy advocacy. The preliminary session was followed by 4 technical sessions including a) Climate Change & Maritime Security\, b) Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)\, c) Water Pollution & Waste Water Management\, and d) Islamic Perspective on Climate Change. Sixty-Three (63) scholarly written papers were presented by the researchers/ academicians/ scientists from; PCRWR\, University of Mehran\, Centre of Research on Climate Change\, Comsats\, University of Baltistan\, Balochistan University\, International Islamic University\, PIDE and Islamic Studies Department\, Riphah\, etc. \nThe presenters emphasized that a practical approach\, consistent policies\, political stability\, effective water governance\, and budget allocations are to be pursued to address the climate change issues. The conference concluded with the closing ceremony. Dr. Waleed Rasool\, Dr. Musab\, and Mr. Kashif Zaheer appreciated the partners and fellow faculty for their efforts for the successful conference. They also applauded the students for their contribution to the conference. In the end\, souvenirs and certificates were given to Guest Speakers\, Presenters\, and organizers of the conference. Notable national media houses and newspapers covered the conference.

SUMMARY:International Conference on Medical Education (ICME)
DESCRIPTION:Sixth ICME 2019\nSixth International Conference on Medical Education was organized from 19-22 October 2019\, in Islamabad Pakistan. It was second occasion\, after the first ICME in 2009\, that the conference was organized in Islamabad after ten years. By now ICME has increased its scope and includes other branches of Health Profession (Dental\, Nursing\, Rehabilitation Medicine and Pharmacy) as well. Because of this\, the theme of the conference had been given  “21st Century Challenges in Health Professions Education”.\nThe conference was organized in academic partnership with Army Medical College\, Fazaia Medical College\, Foundation University\, Rawalpindi Medical University\, Tameer-i-Millat University\, University of Lahore\, Dow Medical University and Jinnah Sind Medical University. It was supported by Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE)\, Society of Medical Educationists (Pakistan)\, International Federation of Medical Students’ Association and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Edinburgh. The conference was patronized by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Pakistan Science Foundation.\nThe main objectives of the 6th conference included:\n1. To discuss internal and external challenges confronted by Health Profession Education both nationally and internationally.\n2. Sharing the challenges imposed by societal issues\, social accountability\, accreditation standards and healthcare reforms.\n3. Discussion on standards for medical schools\, defined outcomes\, inculcation of ethical values\, and methods of assessment for 21st Century.\n4. Faculty development and promotion of scholarship of teaching to maintain excellence in health profession education.\nMain topics selected included Students Assessment\, Islamic Ethics\, Continuing Professional Development\,  Interprofessional Education\, Patient safety\, Professionalism and Integrity\, Curriculum Viability\, Student Selection\, Educational Leadership\, Empowering Learners\, Accreditation Standards\, Artificial Intelligence\, Simulation and Educational Research.\nThe event comprised two days of Pre-Conference courses and workshops and two days of main conference. Pre-Conference Courses and Workshops were conducted at three campuses of Riphah International University and campuses of partners institutions on 19th and 20th October while main conference was held at Pak-China Friendship Center on 21st and 22nd October. In all four courses and thirty PCW were conducted. Courses were conducted on Educational Leadership\, Research in Health Profession Education\, Developing an Online Course and Understanding Entrustable Professional Activities. PCWs covered a wide range of hot topics in Health Profession Education and included subjects like Mentoring\, Artificial Intelligence\, Simulated Patients and Time Management. There were total of 39 International and National Experts who conducted these courses and workshops. International speakers came from USA\, UK\, Netherlands\, UAE\, KSA\, Iran and Vietnam whereas national speakers came from almost all parts of Pakistan.\nTotal of 267 abstracts were received from national and international presenters. Of these 242 were accepted while 213 registered. Abstracts were divided into 19 sessions of oral presentations\, 5 sessions of poster presentations and 10 free conference workshops. In addition\, there were two Plenaries\, five Symposia and five sessions of What the Experts say? sessions on various topics of current interest.\nPlenaries were delivered by Prof Olle ten Cate from Netherland\, Prof Brownel Anderson from USA\, Prof Hossam Hamdi from UAE and Prof Ronald Harden. Prof Ronald Harden\, who was not allowed to travel by his doctors sent his recorded plenary that was run as first plenary lecture.\nSixth ICME will be held from 19-22 October 2019 at Pak-China Centre\, Islamabad\, Pakistan.\nFirst ICME 2009\, organized by Riphah International University\, was held in Islamabad.\nSecond ICME 2010 was held in Abu Dhabi\nThird ICME 2013 was held in Mauritius.\nFourth ICME 2015 was held in Istanbul\, Turkey.\nFifth ICME was held in Abu Dhabi\nSixth ICME was held in Islamabad.

DESCRIPTION:The 3rd International Conference on recent innovations in pharmaceutical sciences ICRIPS 2019 organized by Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences held at Margalla Hotel\, Islamabad. The inauguration session was started with the recitation of Holy Quran. The ceremony was honored by the presence of chief guest Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali\, Vice Chancellor\, Quaid-i-Azam University\, Islamabad\, guest of honor Prof. Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti\, Member operations and planning\, HEC\, Islamabad and Chancellor Riphah International University\, Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan.\nWhile addressing\, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized on research output in country whereas Prof. Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti talked about HEC policies regarding research and liaison with research institutes. The chancellor RIU\, Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan emphasized on applied research with specific focus to decrease thedisease burden of our country.\nThere were 33 oral presentations including international and national speakers and 52 posters presenters comprising both graduates and undergraduate students from different universities around the country. Three workshops on Pharmacogenomics\, Bioinformatics and Pharmacy practice were held on the first and second days. The oral talks covered the majority of the sections and topics related to pharmaceutical innovation and research\, namely\, drug discovery and development\, emerging trends in nanomedicine\, natural products and pharmaceutical analysis. The poster competition winners were also awarded with certificates and cash prizes.
